On Monday, Aug. 12, Fremd welcomed a new computer science and math teacher. Cassandra Seaver, a seemingly new teacher here at Fremd, isn’t new at all. In fact, she is a part of Fremd’s class of 2020.
As a Fremd alumni, Seaver reflects on her experience growing up in the area.
“I lived 10 minutes away from Fremd, and so I grew up here. I have two siblings that also kind of live in the area. I really enjoyed going to Fremd,” Seaver said.
Seaver has always been passionate about teaching, even from a young age.
“Both of my parents were teachers, and so I grew up seeing the teaching side of school,” Seaver said. “And so then I had to pick which subject I’d want to teach. And I’ve always loved math, and my parents were also both math teachers, and so they helped me a lot with math, and it was always really fun.”
Seaver also got into computer science after randomly deciding to try it. She ended up loving it, which led to wanting to teach both subjects.
Seaver describes what it was like attending Fremd as a student.
“I had a lot of good teachers. I feel like I had a lot of teachers that were different and had different strengths,” Seaver said.
Outside of school and the subjects she teaches, Seaver enjoys sports, especially volleyball. She was a part of the Fremd Girls Volleyball team when she was in high school, and is now a coach for the team. Seaver also volunteers at her church, loves taking road trips with her friends and family, and even owns an 11-year-old parakeet named Chico.
A piece of advice Seaver has for her students is to try new things as much as possible. When she took computer science on a whim, it sparked an unexpected passion and opened up new opportunities. Just as it did for her, Seaver encourages students to step outside their comfort zones, as exploring different areas can lead to exciting and unexpected paths.
