Rixton, formally known as Relics, is a new pop-reggae boy band that has recently gained popularity after their debut single, “Me and My Broken Heart,” rose to the top of the charts. Emerging from England, this band is made up of four members: the lead vocalist Jake Roche, guitarist and vocalist Charley Bagnall, drummer Lewi Morgan, and keys/bass and backing
vocalist Danny Wilkin.

The band started off making YouTube videos covering songs and was noticed and picked up by Scooter Braun, who also represents artists Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and Carly Rae Jepsen.

Rixton’s second single of the album, “Make Out,” gained a lot of attention. Throughout the music video, the band recreates scenes from other popular music videos such as Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball” and Justin Bieber’s “Beauty and a Beat.” This video parody is full of humor and is accompanied by a song with an acoustic beat that quickly evolves into a more pop-like sound.

Their song, “Me and My Broken Heart,” is extremely catchy and easy to sing along to. It starts off with piano and vocals, but picks up soon after with a reggae-like beat. It is very different from the rest of their songs, which are more acoustic. The song also has a fun music video, which shows the four members being scammed by girls who lead them into a rigged poker game.

Unlike many of their other songs, “Wait on Me” has a more upbeat rhythm. The music video has a Romeo and Juliet take on a love story with Jake falling in love with a gangster’s daughter.

However, their music sounds a lot like other musicians. For example, the beat of “Me and my Broken Heart” sounds a lot like Maroon 5’s song, “One More Night.” This could be a problem for Rixton. They should create a singular identity, because they may endure continuous comparisons to other musicians. If Rixton will continue to make great music with hilarious music videos that complement their songs, their success will speak for itself.

Rixton is currently working on their new album “Let the Road” which will be released in January 2015, but can be pre-ordered now. Rixton will also be releasing more singles and a possible track, “Hotel Ceiling”, co-written with Ed Sheeran.

The release of their album will bring more tour dates in the United Kingdom and the United States. Along with this, Rixton will be touring with Ariana Grande in her “Honeymoon Tour” starting February.
